VASCULAR DISEASE

At Kern Vascular, we specialize in diagnosing and treating a wide range of vascular diseases with precision and compassion. Our team is dedicated to improving circulation, preventing complications, and enhancing quality of life through personalized, expert care.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

When arteries narrow, your legs feel the strain.
PAD occurs when plaque builds up in the arteries, reducing blood flow to your limbs—especially the legs. This can lead to pain when walking (claudication), numbness, coldness, or even ulcers. Left untreated, PAD increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Diagnostics:

  • Arterial Doppler Ultrasound

  • ABI (Ankle-Brachial Index)

  • Segmental Pressure Test

Treatments:

  • Angioplasty

  • Stenting

  • Atherectomy

  • Bypass Surgery

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)

A silent bulge that can become a serious threat.
An AAA is a weakening and ballooning of the abdominal aorta. Most people don’t feel symptoms until the aneurysm becomes large or ruptures—which can be life-threatening. Screening is especially important for those over 65 or with a family history.

Diagnostics:

  • Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound

  • Iliocaval Ultrasound

  • CT Angiography (off-site)

Treatments:

  • Open Aneurysm Repair

  • Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR)

Varicose Veins & Chronic Venous Insufficiency

More than a cosmetic issue—your veins need support.
Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins that often cause heaviness, aching, or swelling in the legs. They may lead to chronic venous insufficiency if valves fail and blood pools in the legs. Early care can prevent skin changes and ulcers.

Diagnostics:

  • Venous Doppler Ultrasound

  • Vein Mapping

Treatments:

  • Compression Therapy

  • Vein Ablation (offered off-site)

  • Lifestyle Modification

Carotid Artery Disease

Prevent stroke before it strikes.
This condition involves the narrowing of the carotid arteries in the neck, which supply blood to the brain. It often progresses without symptoms—until a stroke or TIA (mini-stroke) occurs. Screening and early treatment can prevent these events.

Diagnostics:

  • Carotid Duplex Ultrasound

  • CT/MR Angiography (off-site)

Treatments:

  • Carotid Endarterectomy

  • Carotid Artery Stenting

Renal Artery Stenosis

When your kidneys aren’t getting enough blood.
This condition involves narrowing of the arteries that supply the kidneys. It can lead to difficult-to-control high blood pressure or kidney damage over time. Early diagnosis can prevent permanent kidney dysfunction.

Diagnostics:

  • Renal Duplex Ultrasound

  • CTA or MRA (off-site)

Treatments:

  • Angioplasty

  • Stenting

Mesenteric Ischemia

Your digestive tract needs proper blood flow too.
When blood flow to the intestines is reduced, it can cause pain after eating, weight loss, or more severe complications like bowel damage. Chronic or acute mesenteric ischemia requires swift diagnosis and intervention.

Diagnostics:

  • Mesenteric Duplex Ultrasound

  • Angiogram

Treatments:

  • Angioplasty & Stenting

  • Bypass Surgery (for advanced cases)

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

Clots in your legs can travel to your lungs.
DVT occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, typically in the legs. It can lead to leg swelling, pain, and in serious cases, pulmonary embolism if the clot travels to the lungs. Timely diagnosis and management are critical.

Diagnostics:

  • Venous Doppler Ultrasound

  • Iliocaval Ultrasound

Treatments:

  • Anticoagulation Therapy (prescribed by your physician)

  • Compression Therapy

  • Venograms

Lymphedema

Swelling that just won’t go away.
Lymphedema is swelling due to fluid buildup from a compromised lymphatic system—often following surgery or chronic vein issues. It requires lifelong care and support to control symptoms and prevent infections.

Diagnostics:

  • Clinical Evaluation

  • Venous Ultrasound (to rule out vein causes)

Treatments:

  • Compression Therapy

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (off-site referral)

  • Skin Care Education

Post-Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS)

Chronic pain and swelling after a DVT.
PTS can develop months or years after a deep vein thrombosis. It leads to long-term leg pain, heaviness, swelling, or even ulcers. While it can’t be cured, our team helps manage symptoms and prevent complications.

Diagnostics:

  • Venous Doppler Ultrasound

  • Venograms (if needed)

Treatments:

  • Compression Therapy

  • Lifestyle Guidance

  • Venous Interventions (if needed)

Non-Healing Wounds & Critical Limb Ischemia

When wounds don’t heal, vascular care is essential.
Poor circulation can prevent ulcers or wounds from healing—especially in patients with diabetes or advanced PAD. We specialize in identifying vascular causes and offering treatments to restore blood flow and preserve your limbs.

Diagnostics:

  • Arterial & Venous Ultrasounds

  • ABI & Segmental Pressures

Treatments:

  • Angioplasty & Stenting

  • Bypass Surgery

  • Advanced Wound Care
